Day 271+, Genocide in the making, what are we doing about it?

November 22nd, 2022 Letter #17 (Day 271)

Dear Friends,

Throughout my life, I attended many solemn memorials of various genocides. They honored The Armenian Genocide, the Genocide of Indians of Kashmir, The Holodomor-Ukrainian Famine, and The Holocaust. I studied many others and was personally impacted by both Holodomor and Holocaust. However, we as humanity still haven't recognized many Genocides as such. What is equally alarming is that we misclassify unfortunate ideological, territorial, and religious disputes that, at times, are violent into genocides. This mischaracterization diminishes the horror and excuses our absence of resolve in preventing these Genocides. Genocides result in the disappearance of cultures, traditions, and national identities and millions of deaths. It excuses one nation's actions in trying to eliminate another because of its race, ethnicity, religion, or national identity.

Some sixteen countries and much of the USA solemnly honor the victims of Holodomor on the last Saturday of November. Last Sunday, I attended another memorial to pay tribute to the victims of Holodomor, when approximately ten million people perished at the hands of men who used starvation as a tool to break The Ukrainian Nation. Professor Victor Rud of Duke University was the guest speaker at this event. He clearly demonstrated the connection between the events of that era and what we see today, some ninety(90) years later.

There are many reasons for the current Ruzzo-Ukrainian War. Still, the essential truth is that the Genocide of the Ukrainian people is the fundamental tool of the Rizzian National strategy. It always was, and it still is.

This Genocide is happening in front of our eyes. In the early stages of this war, we stood by to see which way the tide of military success would turn. Fortunately for Ukraine and frankly for the rest of the world, Ukraine stood its ground. Now the world is united in support of Ukraine. Yet, many pundits question US and Western support for Ukraine. To them, I say, study history. Their sentiments echo pre-WWII naïve speeches appeasing the Nazi actions. The names have changed, but the ideas of isolationism, fear, and burying our society's head in the sand still stand true.

The West is on the right track, but what about us as individuals? Are we still hoping that the situation for Ukraine and 44 million Ukrainians will somehow change for the better? Does the word HOPE describe our method of supporting Ukraine and trying to make a difference in the life of even one person? Are we doing what is in our power to make a difference in some small way to impact the lives of people enthroned in the fight for their survival against an authoritarian nation with the world's second-largest army and the largest Nuclear arsenal?

This Thanksgiving, please remember to Pray for Ukraine, and when you consider the principles of Giving Tuesday and the spirit of the Holiday, please remember Ukraine!

On behalf of Share Ukraine and the Ukrainian People, I wish you and your loved ones a Happy and Meaningful Thanksgiving!

Sam Rozenberg.

Glory to Ukraine.
